Mellon Elementary School is taking flight with CAMP Osprey.
CAMP Osprey is a mentoring initiative created and sponsored by University of North Florida Professor Matthew Ohlson.
Dr. Ohlson and and a group of his graduate students are mentoring 10 Mellon students the school identified to learn character traits through Sean Covey's book “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens.”
Mellon students in CAMP Osprey communicate with their mentors via videoconference in the school’s media center each week. CAMP stands for Collegiate Achievement Mentoring Program. It is based out of UNF’s Jacksonville campus.
“They are learning skills that will help them overcome obstacles as they progress toward a future of college and careers,” said Principal Joe Theobold. “The students are very excited to be a part of this program, which will culminate in a trip to UNF to tour the school and experience team building and success planning.”
