Miller Middle School students in Crescent City’s Boyz II Men mentoring program delivered gift bags to boys in first and second grades at Middleton-Burney Elementary School Friday.

The emphasis was on how giving to others helps build character, said Boyz II Men President Gerald Watson, who oversaw the event.

“No matter how young or old, or rich or poor, you are, everyone can give,” he said.

Each gift bag contained a shoebox-sized box with up to 10 different items, including school supplies, activity books, calendars, novelty gifts and assorted toiletries.

The Boyz II Men students greeted and shook the hands of the younger students as they handed them their gifts. The group of first- and second-grade students was selected at random to receive the gifts.

Fifth-grade students at the elementary school who were on hand to help and were interested in joining the community service group received Boyz II Men T-shirts.
