Exceptional Student Education (ESE)

Starfish You can Make a difference

Welcome to the Putnam County Schools
Exceptional Student Education website.

Mission: To work cooperatively with our schools, parents, and community partners to ensure students have the proper supports they need to be successful in the Least Restrictive Environment.

Vision:  To ensure that all Exceptional Education Students in the Putnam County School District are life, college and /or career ready.

The Florida Department of Education is working with school districts to gather information on how well parents think their child’s school is partnering with parents of students with disabilities and would like to include your input. Your responses will help guide efforts to improve services and results for children and families.

This survey is for parents of students with individual educational plans (IEP) receiving special education services during the 2016-17 school year. All information provided will remain confidential. You may submit one online survey for each child receiving services.

To access the survey, please visit http://www.esesurvey.com/Login.php

Putnam County’s Exceptional Student Education Department helps schools meet the needs of exceptional students from preschool through age 22,  who qualify for special services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (DEA) and gifted students.  Our goal is to provide every exceptional student with a free appropriate public education (FAPE) and prepare them to be college, career, and/or community ready.

The Exceptional Student Education Department enhances the instructional program of every school by helping students with diverse needs succeed in school.  Once a student becomes eligible for ESE services under at least one of the exceptionalities, a continuum of services is provided for each of the exceptionalities. Each student eligible for services under IDEA has an Individual Education Plan (IEP), which is reviewed and revised at least annually with the parents.  Additional support services such as occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, mental health counseling, and assistive technology are provided to the students as needed. Transition programs are also available to those students who are graduating so that they may become functional adults within their society.

For more information regarding our various programs, please visit the district’s Exceptional Student Education links.  If you have any questions or need addition information, please call the ESE District Office at (386) 329-0528 and you will be directed to the appropriate person to address your concerns.
